James forgot to mention that we took a tour through the Slate Museum. The guide, Peredur, is a carpenter at the museum and had previously been a manager at a quarry, so he really knows his stuff. He was fascinating, and insightful, and exactly what you want in a guide; not a single "And we're walking..." was heard.
Also? I'm in love with slate. I want a slate roof. And slate floors. And slate coasters.

Oooh, slate. I want to make a slate softie.
How did pool table surfacing not make your list?

Hmm. I meant to say 'Things you can do with slate that I have personally seen in Wales in the last three days'.
Also, a slate softie would be... weird.
How did writing on a slate not make the list? And of course the metaphorical, slating it up, clearing the slate, putting it on the slate etc etc
reminds me of travelling in Portugal: amazing what cork can be made into - handbags, flooring, wall coverings, oh and corks
